As they are not in uniform, the Spartans identify the hostiles, lure them into a trap and knock them out with rocks. When they reach the dropship, however, they see two UNSC soldiers waiting near it. Soon, all the cadets converge, and they determine the location of the dropship. John carves Blue Team's insignia on a tree as a memento. John is deployed first, and quickly reunites with the rest of his team, using a river they had spotted from the dropship as a rallying point. Each cadet will receive a small piece of the map needed to find the dropship the last cadet on the dropship will be left behind and have to walk back. Their objective is to find each other, and then find another Albatross dropship to extract. Mendez tells them that they will all be dropped off in different areas of the Reach Military Wilderness Training Preserve. Two years later, Chief Petty Officer Mendez and all of the cadets are aboard an Albatross dropship. In the mess hall, John apologizes to his teammates and offers them some crackers which he stole several days before, cementing their bond. Mendez explains that although John reached the bell first, his team came in last, and so they will not eat. John races ahead to the bell, not stopping to help his teammates, Sam, Kelly, and Fred, much to their anger. When John asks what the prize is for winning, Mendez says that the losing team will go without dinner. One day, he tells them it is time to do a training exercise called Ring the Bell. Their trainer, Franklin Mendez, leads them in physical exercises. The scene then shifts to Jacob Keyes and Catherine Halsey traveling through slipspace to Eridanus II to search for candidates viable for a new super soldier program known as the SPARTAN-II program. SABERTOOTH has brought Halo 2's original ending to life by creating an animated reconstruction of Wilson's storyboards with Photoshop and After Effects, complete with dialogue, music, sound effects, and contextual notes between scenes. The film begins with Blue Team visiting the glassed remnants of Reach, where they recall their friendship with deceased Spartan Samuel-034. Now, thanks to the efforts of a talented Halo fan by the name of C3 SABERTOOTH, we have the closest thing we’ll get to an answer. It's a wild ending for Bungie's Halo games that's much different than what we got in Halo 2 and Halo 3, and ever since it was revealed in these storyboards, many fans have wondered what it would look and sound like fully developed. The Prophet of Truth had already discovered this, and in an effort to wipe out all life in the galaxy and insert himself into the template to rebuild the galaxy in his image, chose to instigate civil war within the Covenant and attempted to fire the Halo rings before ultimately being stopped. In it, the war between the Covenant and the UNSC is wrapped up in what is essentially a cut down version of Halo 3's story, with the Arbiter (called "the Dervish" at the time) discovering that humans were the direct descendants of the Forerunners and that the Forerunners had used a genetic template to guide the evolutionary process on Earth. While the story concluded on a cliffhanger with the Master Chief following the Prophet of Truth to Earth in the official game, the prototyped version of the narrative ended very differently. Some of the biggest insights provided by Wilson's storyboards were related to the ending of Halo 2. ![]()
